TV9 Hindi · business

The Indian government is considering reducing its stake in four public sector undertaking (PSU) banks to 75%, including Central Bank of India, Uco Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, and Indian Overseas Bank. This move aims to comply with stock market regulations requiring at least 25% public shareholding. Additionally, the government is planning the next phase of PSU bank mergers, potentially selecting two more banks for privatisation. The goal is to consolidate the banking sector, leaving only three to four large public sector banks in the long term.
