A Texas man unknowingly used a Civil War-era artillery shell as a paperweight for years, believing it to be a harmless dummy round. The object, acquired from his son who found it while fishing, had become a conversation piece in his Atascosa County home. A visitor with military experience raised concerns that the shell might still be live. Experts safely destroyed the approximately 20-pound projectile at Camp Bullis.
