Bengaluru Residents Face Squeeze As Fruit Prices Rise Significantly
Times of India · india
Fruit prices in Bengaluru have risen considerably compared to a year or two ago, forcing many households to spend 30-40% more on their daily fruit intake. Some families are now rationing staple fruits like bananas or giving up varieties such as apples and pomegranates altogether. Traders attribute the price surge to lower market arrivals, direct procurement by exporters, weather disruptions, and increased supply-chain costs. Factors like declining groundwater and crop diseases are also impacting production at the farm level, contributing to the overall increase in fruit costs for consumers.
