UN Human Rights Office Flags Delhi Protest Detentions, Seeks Release

The UN human rights office has expressed concern over mass detentions during large protests in Delhi, urging Indian authorities to respect peaceful assembly rights. Hundreds of protesters, including leaders of the Gen Z-led Cockroach Janta Party, were detained while attempting to demonstrate for electoral reforms. The UN spokesperson called for the immediate release of arbitrarily detained individuals and urged authorities to exercise restraint. The group had planned to protest alleged manipulation of voter lists by the Chief Election Commissioner, allegations denied by the Election Commission and BJP.

संयुक्त राष्ट्र मानवाधिकार कार्यालय ने दिल्ली में बड़े विरोध प्रदर्शनों के दौरान बड़े पैमाने पर हुई गिरफ्तारियों पर चिंता व्यक्त की है और भारतीय अधिकारियों से शांतिपूर्ण सभा के अधिकारों का सम्मान करने का आग्रह किया है। जेन जेड के नेतृत्व वाली कॉकरोच जनता पार्टी के नेताओं सहित सैकड़ों प्रदर्शनकारियों को चुनावी सुधारों के लिए प्रदर्शन करने की कोशिश करते समय हिरासत में लिया गया था। संयुक्त राष्ट्र के प्रवक्ता ने मनमाने ढंग से हिरासत में लिए गए व्यक्तियों की तत्काल रिहाई का आह्वान किया और अधिकारियों से संयम बरतने का आग्रह किया।
