BBC World · world
Residents near South Africa's capital, Pretoria, have been warned not to drink or cook with tap water after over 400 people, predominantly young children, fell ill. The cases, reported between October 7 and 18 in Tshwane, were linked to contaminated water from a local treatment facility. Lab tests revealed pathogens like E. coli, norovirus, campylobacter, and shigella. While no deaths have been reported, authorities have dispatched water tankers and advised residents to use bottled water for consumption. This follows previous outbreaks of waterborne diseases in the region.
