Times of India · business

The 57th GST Council meeting has introduced significant reforms aimed at creating a more trust-based framework with simpler processes and proportionate enforcement. Key changes include unlocking input tax credit (ITC) for previously restricted goods and services like outdoor catering and insurance, and expanding refund eligibility. Technology will be leveraged for system-driven processing of export refunds, with automation expected to increase. These reforms, many effective by April 2027, focus on business experience beyond just tax rates, addressing credits, refunds, compliance, and disputes.
