India has reduced import duties on edible oils, potentially lowering costs for snack makers like biscuit and noodle producers. The basic customs duty on crude palm and soybean oils has been cut from 10% to 5%, while crude sunflower oil duty is now nil. Analysts suggest the savings may not immediately translate to cheaper products, as companies might use them to offset previous margin squeezes. Bikaji Foods expects a 3-4% reduction in oil costs but no immediate price changes for consumers.
