Infections Linked To 12% Of Global Cancer Cases In 2024

New research from the World Health Organization indicates that infections are a significant cause of cancer worldwide. The study, published in The Lancet Oncology, estimates that approximately 12% of all cancer cases in 2024 were attributable to infections. Researchers linked 2.3 million new cancer cases to specific pathogens. The most common culprits identified were Helicobacter pylori and human papillomavirus (HPV), each accounting for around 4% of these infection-related cancers, followed by hepatitis B virus at 2%.

विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (World Health Organization) की नई रिसर्च बताती है कि दुनिया भर में कैंसर का एक बड़ा कारण संक्रमण हैं। 'The Lancet Oncology' में छपी इस स्टडी के मुताबिक, 2024 में कैंसर के कुल मामलों में से करीब 12% संक्रमण की वजह से हुए। रिसर्चर्स ने 2.3 मिलियन नए कैंसर के मामलों को खास पैथोजन से जोड़ा। सबसे आम वजहें Helicobacter pylori और human papillomavirus (HPV) रहीं, जिनमें से हर एक के कारण ऐसे संक्रमण से जुड़े कैंसर का लगभग 4% हिस्सा था, इसके बाद hepatitis B virus का नंबर आया जो 2% था।
