The Congress party has responded to Home Minister Amit Shah's offer to hold a special parliamentary session on the SIR issue. Party leader Jairam Ramesh stated that if Shah is serious, he must first ensure the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, whom Ramesh called a "hatchet man." Ramesh also accused the government of planning to pass Delimitation Bills with a "super-tainted" majority in a special session. The Congress believes these bills aim to shield the BJP from an anticipated defeat in the 2029 elections.
