South Africa has selected Durban as its preferred city to bid for the 2036 or 2040 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, aiming to bring the event to Africa for the first time. Durban was chosen over Johannesburg and Cape Town, though a multi-city arrangement is likely. The coastal city previously considered hosting after the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but financial concerns halted plans. South Africa is one of seven nations pursuing the 2036 Games, with the IOC deadline for expressing interest set for October 31.
