A special drive against the use of manja, an abrasive kite string, continued in Hubballi Dharwad on Saturday, with five more cases booked. This brings the total number of cases registered in connection with manja to 16. The drive was initiated after a 38-year-old woman died when her throat was slit by manja. Authorities inspected 124 locations, checked 69 places where manja was being used, and removed dangerous strings from 63 spots. The police also checked 67 shops selling the hazardous string.
