The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is developing guidelines to invest in high-growth asset classes like startups and alternate investment funds (AIFs). A proposal to allocate up to 3% of fresh annual accretions to Category I and II AIFs, regulated by SEBI, was discussed. This move signifies a shift from traditional debt instruments towards riskier assets to potentially achieve higher long-term returns for its subscribers. The proposal will be presented to the central board of trustees in November. EPFO manages approximately Rs 30 lakh crore for nearly 30 crore members.
