In the 1970s, Satish Bhaskar embarked on a remarkable journey, walking approximately 4,000 km along India's coastline to document sea turtle nesting sites. His extensive fieldwork included extended stays on remote islands like Suheli in Lakshadweep, where he spent five months in 1982. Bhaskar's dedication was crucial as sea turtles faced significant threats from poaching and accidental capture in fishing nets. His research, which spanned decades and resulted in around 50 reports, provided vital data for understanding and conserving these endangered marine animals.
