FSSAI Issues Notices to Nestle India Over Infant Formula Claims

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to Nestle India regarding claims made on two infant nutrition products, Lactogen Pro 1 Powder and Nan Excella Pro Stage 1. The regulator questioned claims about whey protein being easy to digest and the presence of 5 HMOs supporting the immune system. FSSAI requested scientific substantiation for these claims and directed Nestle to explain why action should not be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

भारतीय खाद्य सुरक्षा और मानक प्राधिकरण (FSSAI) ने नेस्ले इंडिया को दो शिशु पोषण उत्पादों, लैक्टोजेन प्रो 1 पाउडर और नैन एक्सेला प्रो स्टेज 1 पर किए गए दावों के संबंध में नोटिस जारी किए हैं। नियामक ने मट्ठा प्रोटीन के आसानी से पचने योग्य होने और प्रतिरक्षा प्रणाली का समर्थन करने वाले 5 HMOs की उपस्थिति के दावों पर सवाल उठाए। FSSAI ने इन दावों के वैज्ञानिक प्रमाण मांगे और नेस्ले को यह बताने का निर्देश दिया कि खाद्य सुरक्षा और मानक अधिनियम, 2006 के तहत कार्रवाई क्यों न की जाए।
