Fishermen from Chennai's coastal belt are protesting a proposed ₹1,200-crore Secretariat-Assembly complex at Pattinapakkam. They fear displacement and a threat to their traditional fishing livelihoods, citing potential destruction of fishing grounds and sea access. Hundreds participated in a protest and black flag procession, demanding the government withdraw its proposal. The government stated that only the detailed project report process is underway, but fishermen are demanding the formal rescission of the order. The proposed complex is planned for over 24 acres of land.

चेन्नई के तटीय इलाके के मछुआरे पट्टिनपक्कम में ₹1,200 करोड़ के प्रस्तावित सचिवालय-विधानसभा परिसर का विरोध कर रहे हैं। उन्हें विस्थापन और अपनी पारंपरिक मछली पकड़ने की आजीविका पर खतरे का डर है, क्योंकि इससे मछली पकड़ने के क्षेत्रों और समुद्र तक पहुंच का विनाश हो सकता है। सैकड़ों लोगों ने विरोध प्रदर्शन और काले झंडे के जुलूस में भाग लिया, सरकार से अपनी योजना वापस लेने की मांग की। सरकार ने कहा कि केवल विस्तृत परियोजना रिपोर्ट की प्रक्रिया चल रही है, लेकिन मछुआरे आदेश को औपचारिक रूप से रद्द करने की मांग कर रहे हैं। प्रस्तावित परिसर 24 एकड़ से अधिक भूमि पर बनाया जाना है।
