Supreme Court Advises Against Air Travel Amidst 700% Fare Hike

The Supreme Court has refused to urgently hear a plea against a 700% surge in domestic airfares during the Diwali season. The petitioner argued this violates Article 14 of the Constitution. The bench advised the petitioner, "Don't travel by air," when asked to intervene. The Centre previously informed the court that rules on airfare regulation under the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024, would be published soon. The issue of regulating airfares remains pending before the court.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने दिवाली के मौसम में घरेलू हवाई किराए में 700% की वृद्धि के खिलाफ एक याचिका पर तत्काल सुनवाई से इनकार कर दिया है। याचिकाकर्ता ने तर्क दिया कि यह संविधान के अनुच्छेद 14 का उल्लंघन करता है। जब हस्तक्षेप करने के लिए कहा गया तो पीठ ने याचिकाकर्ता से कहा, "हवाई यात्रा न करें"। केंद्र ने पहले अदालत को सूचित किया था कि भारतीय वायुयान अधिनियम, 2024 के तहत हवाई किराया विनियमन के नियम जल्द ही प्रकाशित किए जाएंगे। हवाई किराए को विनियमित करने का मुद्दा अदालत के समक्ष लंबित है।
