Over 100 Youth Federation Cadres Arrested in Chennai Anti-CEC Protest

Chennai police arrested over 100 cadres from the All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and All India Youth Federation (AIYF) on Saturday. The protesters were attempting to march towards the Tamil Nadu Secretariat to demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They accused the CEC of orchestrating vote theft and called for criminal proceedings against him. The demonstration coincided with a similar protest in New Delhi. One protester sustained a head injury during the scuffle with police and required hospital treatment.

शनिवार को चेन्नई पुलिस ने ऑल इंडिया स्टूडेंट्स फेडरेशन (AISF) और ऑल इंडिया यूथ फेडरेशन (AIYF) के 100 से ज़्यादा कार्यकर्ताओं को गिरफ्तार किया। प्रदर्शनकारी मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त (CEC) ज्ञान प्रकाश को हटाने की मांग को लेकर तमिलनाडु सचिवालय की ओर मार्च करने की कोशिश कर रहे थे। उन्होंने CEC पर वोट की चोरी का आरोप लगाया और उनके खिलाफ आपराधिक कार्रवाई की मांग की। यह प्रदर्शन नई दिल्ली में हुए ऐसे ही एक प्रदर्शन के साथ हुआ। पुलिस के साथ झड़प के दौरान एक प्रदर्शनकारी के सिर में चोट आई और उसे अस्पताल में इलाज की ज़रूरत पड़ी।
