Garment workers in Bangladesh are demanding a minimum wage of 30,000 Taka, a significant increase from their current earnings of 12,000 Taka. They cite rising inflation and the increased cost of living, including food, housing, transportation, and healthcare, as reasons for their diminished purchasing power. The government has attributed the ongoing protests to the Awami League party. The demonstrations have led to the closure of approximately 500 factories, resulting in widespread street protests, arson, and violence in Dhaka.
