Indian Sugar Stocks Slide As Govt Halts Ethanol Diversion
Economic Times Markets · stocks
Indian sugar stocks experienced a significant decline in early trade on Monday following a government directive to halt the diversion of sugar for ethanol production for the 2026/27 supply year. The order excludes supplies derived from sugarcane juice, sugar syrup, and B-heavy molasses, impacting companies like Balrampur Chini Mills and Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar, which saw drops of up to 6%. This move aims to increase domestic sugar availability and curb record high prices, especially with concerns over potential output reduction due to weak rainfall.
