Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that the state government is considering granting official recognition to the widely used yellow-and-red Kannada flag. This move aims to symbolise the state's identity without diminishing the national Tricolour. Previously, a cabinet resolution was sent to the Centre, but approval is still pending. The government is also contemplating making the Kannada flag's hoisting mandatory at government offices and aided institutions.
