EC Clears Perundurai Bypoll After Petition Rejection

The Election Commission of India has informed the Madras High Court that there is no legal bar to conducting a byelection in the Perundurai Assembly constituency. This is because an election petition related to the constituency was rejected on September 8, 2026. The EC stated that the bypoll could proceed before November 24, 2026, provided the Supreme Court does not issue a stay. The commission also noted that byelections for four other constituencies remain on hold pending the resolution of their respective election petitions.
