US Sanctions Iran's Rail Sector Amid Shift to Overland Trade
DW World · world
The United States has imposed new sanctions targeting Iran's railway companies, automakers, and auto parts suppliers as part of Operation Economic Outcast. These measures aim to increase economic pressure on Tehran, which has increasingly relied on its rail network for trade. Iran's rail sector has become crucial for moving goods overland to China and Central Asia, especially after maritime trade routes became restricted. The country's rail network includes approximately 15,000 kilometers of lines and carried 44 million tons of freight in the last Iranian year.
