A former OpenAI engineer, Abdulrahman Alfozan, arrested for allegedly planting a bug in the company's San Francisco office, reportedly had contact with a Saudi royal. Prosecutors revealed WhatsApp messages where the royal encouraged Alfozan to leave the US and join Saudi Arabia's AI initiative, stating the kingdom needed him more. Alfozan was accused of using AI tools to develop encrypted recording devices and identify meeting rooms used by executives. His actions, occurring around meetings between OpenAI and Saudi officials, are alleged to pose a danger to US national security.
