MCD Seeks Land in Four Delhi Villages For New Garbage Processing Sites

Hindustan Times · environment

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has requested land from the Delhi Development Authority for new garbage processing plants. The proposed sites are in Ghummanhera, Kharkhari Nahar, Rani Khera, and Sultanpur Dabas villages across Narela and Najafgarh zones. This move aims to address the growing issue of untreated waste piling up at the city's landfill sites. Currently, Delhi processes only 57% of its daily waste, with the remaining 43% ending up at saturated landfills. Projections indicate waste generation could exceed 25,000 tonnes by 2047.
