BJP names slain aide's mother Nandigram candidate

The BJP has nominated Hasirani Rath as its candidate for the Nandigram Assembly byelection. Ms. Rath is the mother of Chandranath Rath, a former personal assistant to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who was killed on May 6, 2026. Chandranath Rath was shot by unidentified assailants in Madhyamgram, Kolkata. The CBI has filed a chargesheet naming 12 accused in the case. The byelection is significant as Suvendu Adhikari previously held the Nandigram seat.

भाजपा ने नंदीग्राम विधानसभा उपचुनाव के लिए हसिरानी रथ को अपना उम्मीदवार बनाया है। हसिरानी, मुख्यमंत्री सुवेंदु अधिकारी के पूर्व निजी सहायक चंद्रनाथ रथ की माँ हैं, जिनकी 6 मई 2026 को कोलकाता के मध्यग्राम में अज्ञात हमलावरों ने गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी थी। इस मामले में सीबीआई ने 12 आरोपियों के खिलाफ चार्जशीट दाखिल की है। यह उपचुनाव इसलिए अहम है क्योंकि सुवेंदु अधिकारी पहले नंदीग्राम सीट से विधायक थे।
