Navadurga and Das Mahavidyas: Understanding Two Distinct Shakti Traditions

HT - Lifestyle · lifestyle

Navratri is associated with the nine forms of Durga, known as Navadurga, representing stages of inner growth. However, Shakta traditions also encompass the Das Mahavidyas, or Ten Great Wisdom Goddesses, rooted in Tantric frameworks. These ten goddesses, Kali, Tara, Tripura Sundari, and others, represent different dimensions of Shakti, including wisdom, consciousness, and liberation. Unlike the Navadurga, the Mahavidyas offer challenging imagery and deeper spiritual insights beyond simple wish fulfillment. Their traditions provide distinct ways to understand the Divine Feminine.
