Ladakh Gets New District Amidst Statehood and Sixth Schedule Demands

The Union Territory of Ladakh has seen significant recent developments as the Centre addresses long-standing demands. A Ministry of Home Affairs sub-committee has shared a 15-page draft proposal with regional civil society groups and leaders. In parallel, the Lieutenant Governor's administration announced the creation of Sankoo as Ladakh's eighth district. These moves come as Ladakh continues to press for Statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, having been a UT without a legislature since 2019.
