Resigned MLAs Recontesting May Insult Voters: HC

A Madras High Court judge remarked that elected MLAs resigning to recontest for another party in by-elections could insult voters. Justice S.M. Subramaniam suggested the Election Commission of India examine this practice. The court was hearing a plea against legislators resigning to join new parties and seek re-election. Six AIADMK MLAs in Tamil Nadu resigned and joined the TVK, with two now fielded for by-elections in Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies.

मद्रास हाई कोर्ट के एक जज ने कहा कि विधायक अगर किसी और पार्टी में जाने के लिए इस्तीफा देकर फिर से चुनाव लड़ते हैं, तो यह वोटरों का अपमान हो सकता है। जस्टिस एस.एम. सुब्रमण्यम ने चुनाव आयोग से इस मामले की जांच करने को कहा। कोर्ट में ऐसे विधायकों की याचिका पर सुनवाई चल रही थी जो पार्टी बदलकर फिर से चुनाव लड़ना चाहते हैं।
