Times of India · interesting
Residents of the Scottish island of Lismore, home to 190 people, have funded archaeological investigations into its monastic past. Excavations revealed an early medieval cemetery, ancient buildings, and over 1,000 artefacts, including crucibles and moulds indicating sophisticated jewellery-making. These findings suggest Lismore was a significant religious and artistic centre during the sixth and seventh centuries. The discoveries offer new insights into early Christianity in northern Britain and the island's role in early Christian networks.
