India's 2027 Census Rules Changed To Include Private School Teachers

The Indian government has amended the Census Rules, 1990, allowing teachers from aided and unaided private institutions to be appointed as census enumerators for the 2027 Census. This notification, issued by the Registrar General of India, expands the scope beyond government officials and existing provisions. Previously, only government employees and certain other individuals could be assigned census duties. This change comes amid a legal challenge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court by the Haryana Progressive School Conference against appointing teachers from unaided private schools.

भारत सरकार ने जनगणना नियम, 1990 में बदलाव किया है। अब 2027 की जनगणना के लिए सहायता प्राप्त और गैर-सहायता प्राप्त प्राइवेट संस्थानों के शिक्षकों को जनगणना गणक के तौर पर नियुक्त किया जा सकेगा। भारत के महापंजीयक द्वारा जारी इस अधिसूचना से सरकारी अधिकारियों और मौजूदा प्रावधानों से आगे बढ़कर इसका दायरा बढ़ाया गया है। पहले केवल सरकारी कर्मचारियों और कुछ अन्य व्यक्तियों को ही जनगणना का काम सौंपा जा सकता था। यह बदलाव पंजाब और हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट में हरियाणा प्रोग्रेसिव स्कूल कॉन्फ्रेंस द्वारा गैर-सहायता प्राप्त प्राइवेट स्कूलों के शिक्षकों की नियुक्ति के खिलाफ दायर एक कानूनी चुनौती के बीच आया है।
