Demography Panel Seeks Religion-Wise Data From States, Officials Cite Data Gaps

A High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes, formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, has sent a 35-point questionnaire to state governments seeking extensive data on demographic shifts over the past 15 years. The questionnaire requests religion-wise and district-wise information on birth registrations, school enrolments, and property transactions, among other categories. However, state officials have indicated that much of this data is not maintained in the requested format, particularly religion-wise classifications across various administrative databases.
