Govt Denies Foreign Pressure on UPI MDR

The government has denied allegations that foreign pressure influenced the introduction of Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI payments. Officials stated that the charge, applied to select high-value transactions, will actually help domestic payment companies thrive within the UPI ecosystem. This move is seen as a step to protect India's sovereignty in electronic payments. The Department of Financial Services clarified that the MDR does not address concerns raised by the U.S.

सरकार ने इन आरोपों को खारिज कर दिया है कि विदेशी दबाव के कारण UPI पेमेंट्स पर मर्चेंट डिस्काउंट रेट (MDR) लागू किया गया। अधिकारियों का कहना है कि यह शुल्क, जो चुनिंदा बड़े ट्रांजैक्शन पर लगेगा, वास्तव में घरेलू पेमेंट कंपनियों को UPI इकोसिस्टम में आगे बढ़ने में मदद करेगा। इसे इलेक्ट्रॉनिक पेमेंट में भारत की संप्रभुता की रक्षा की दिशा में एक कदम माना जा रहा है।
