A French court has sentenced 13 men to prison for their roles in the deadliest small-boat crossing of migrants attempting to reach the UK from France. Six men were found guilty of involuntary homicide and received sentences between six and 10 years for organizing an overloaded, unseaworthy boat trip. The remaining seven received up to four years for lesser charges. The court stated the smugglers profited from the vulnerability of those seeking exile. The incident involved 31 passengers, mostly Iraqi Kurds, who drowned in the English Channel in November 2021.
