The Hindu - International · world
Mali's armed forces have confirmed discovering 54 bodies following attacks on camps in the Menaka region last weekend, an increase of six from previous reports. Gunmen on motorcycles reportedly opened fire on camps primarily housing members of the Daoussahak community. Nine survivors were evacuated to Menaka, and the victims were buried on site. Testimonies suggest the Islamic State group's Sahel branch carried out the attack, possibly in retaliation for recent military operations and attacks by the Movement for the Salvation of Azawad (MSA).
