Shivamogga Village Bans Non-Veg Feasts Due To Severe Drought
The Hindu · india
Residents of Harigi village in Shivamogga district have banned non-vegetarian feasts at weddings due to a severe drought impacting the agrarian community. The village development committee will enforce the resolution, imposing penalties of ₹1 lakh for hosting and ₹50,000 for attending such feasts. This decision aims to curb excessive spending, which has led some families into debt and forced land sales. The prohibition is seen as a way to redirect funds towards more beneficial long-term purposes for families struggling with crop failures.
