IREF has launched a bulk-shipping initiative to slash freight costs for basmati rice exports to Iraq by approximately 74%. This aims to reduce costs from $350 USD per ton to $90 USD per ton, potentially saving $260 USD per ton. The move is expected to boost India's competitiveness in the Middle East, which accounts for about 70% of its basmati exports. This initiative involves shipping 1,02,210 metric tons of basmati rice to Iraq via three vessels, in partnership with Singapore's Eximwala Solutions.
