Hindustan Times · india
A 33-year-old Pune software engineer, 24 weeks pregnant, has been denied permission to terminate her pregnancy by the Bombay High Court. She discovered her husband was already married when she was 13 weeks pregnant and sought an abortion due to marital deception and abuse. The court cited that her situation did not fit the exceptions under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971. The woman's lawyer plans to approach the Supreme Court, arguing that the High Court's delayed hearing pushed her past the legal limit for termination.
