Russian Satellite Approaches US Radar Satellite in Orbit
The Hindu - International · world
Russia's Cosmos-2612 satellite has repeatedly altered its orbit to approach ICEYE-X36, a U.S.-registered commercial radar-imaging satellite. The operator of ICEYE-X36 currently supplies data to Ukraine. While no attack has been confirmed, the satellites were estimated to be only 1-2 kilometers apart, a very close distance in orbit. This maneuver, known as rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO), is typically for inspection or repair, but this instance appears non-consensual. Russia has not disclosed the mission or capabilities of Cosmos-2612.
