MeitY Asks Platforms to Prioritize Complaints on Misleading Content

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has urged social media platforms to prioritize complaints from government agencies regarding content that could disrupt public order. This advisory, issued on Thursday, aims to address false and manipulated information circulating during public events. The government views such content as potentially inciting violence and disorder. Platforms are asked to enhance monitoring, strengthen complaint systems, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. They should also label manipulated content and run user awareness campaigns on verifying information before sharing.

इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्रालय (MeitY) ने सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म से सरकारी एजेंसियों से आने वाली उन शिकायतों को प्राथमिकता देने को कहा है जो सार्वजनिक व्यवस्था को बिगाड़ सकती हैं। गुरुवार को जारी इस सलाह का मकसद सार्वजनिक कार्यक्रमों के दौरान फैल रही झूठी और हेरफेर की गई जानकारी से निपटना है। सरकार का मानना है कि ऐसी सामग्री हिंसा और अव्यवस्था भड़का सकती है। प्लेटफॉर्म से निगरानी बढ़ाने, शिकायत प्रणालियों को मजबूत करने और कानून प्रवर्तन एजेंसियों के साथ सहयोग करने को कहा गया है। उन्हें हेरफेर की गई सामग्री को लेबल करना चाहिए और साझा करने से पहले जानकारी सत्यापित करने पर उपयोगकर्ता जागरूकता अभियान चलाने चाहिए।
