Supreme Court Seeks Details on Space for 135-Year-Old Library

The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to provide the layout plan and specific area details for housing the 135-year-old Central Secretariat Library. The library, containing over 8.5 lakh books, is currently in Shastri Bhavan, slated for demolition under the Central Vista plan. The Centre indicated it would allot approximately 5,200 square metres, an increase from the current 4,144 square metres. The court emphasized the need for an affidavit with full details to ensure the space is adequate for all its books.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने केंद्र से 135 साल पुरानी सेंट्रल सेक्रेटेरिएट लाइब्रेरी को रखने के लिए लेआउट प्लान और खास जगह का ब्योरा देने को कहा है। इस लाइब्रेरी में 8.5 लाख से ज़्यादा किताबें हैं और यह अभी शास्त्री भवन में है, जिसे सेंट्रल विस्टा प्लान के तहत तोड़ा जाना है। केंद्र ने बताया कि वह अभी के 4,144 वर्ग मीटर से ज़्यादा, लगभग 5,200 वर्ग मीटर जगह देगा। कोर्ट ने कहा कि सभी किताबों के लिए पर्याप्त जगह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए पूरी जानकारी वाला एक हलफनामा ज़रूरी है।
