Crocodile Found Abandoned On Long Island Trail

A Morelet’s crocodile, a species native to Central America, was discovered abandoned on a walking trail at the Holtsville Wildlife & Ecology Center on Long Island. Staff found the reptile while groundskeeping the facility, which was closed for the season. The Strong Island Animal Rescue League and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation were notified. The Suffolk County SPCA is investigating the abandonment, and a $1,000 reward is offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
