चुनाव आयोग (Election Commission of India) ने एसआईआर (SIR) की समय सीमा बढ़ा दी है, जिससे बूथ-स्तरीय अधिकारियों (BLOs) को मसौदा मतदाता सूची (draft electoral roll) से हटाए गए लगभग 47 लाख नामों का फिर से सत्यापन करने की अनुमति मिल गई है। पुन: सत्यापन के इस दूसरे दौर का उद्देश्य बड़े पैमाने पर नामों को हटाए जाने के बाद योग्य मतदाताओं को बाहर किए जाने से रोकना है। इस प्रक्रिया में 14,947 बीएलओ (BLOs) संभावित रूप से घरों का दौरा करेंगे और इसमें मतदाताओं को शामिल करने के लिए विशेष शिविर (special camps) भी शामिल हो सकते हैं। अंतिम मतदाता सूची अब 22 दिसंबर को प्रकाशित होगी, जो मूल 4 दिसंबर की तारीख से बदली गई है।
