Press Council of India Reconstituted With 13 New Members Nominated

The Indian government has reconstituted the Press Council of India (PCI) by nominating 13 new members, primarily comprising editors and working journalists. The PCI, established under the Press Council Act of 1978, functions as a statutory autonomous body. Its primary objectives are to safeguard press freedom and enhance the standards of newspapers and news agencies across the country. The council is currently headed by retired Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai and previously included MPs, representatives from newspaper owners, and experts from various professional bodies.

भारत सरकार ने प्रेस काउंसिल ऑफ इंडिया (PCI) का पुनर्गठन किया है और 13 नए सदस्यों को मनोनीत किया है, जिनमें मुख्य रूप से संपादक और कार्यरत पत्रकार शामिल हैं। प्रेस काउंसिल अधिनियम, 1978 के तहत स्थापित PCI, एक वैधानिक स्वायत्त निकाय के रूप में कार्य करता है। इसके मुख्य उद्देश्य देश भर में प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता की रक्षा करना और समाचार पत्रों तथा समाचार एजेंसियों के मानकों को बढ़ाना है। वर्तमान में इस परिषद की अध्यक्षता सेवानिवृत्त जस्टिस रंजन प्रकाश देसाई कर रही हैं और इसमें पहले सांसद, समाचार पत्र मालिकों के प्रतिनिधि और विभिन्न पेशेवर निकायों के विशेषज्ञ शामिल थे।
