State governments are finding it difficult to provide religion-wise data requested by the High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes (HLCDC). The committee, formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, seeks information on birth registrations, vehicle ownership, school enrollment, and property transactions over the past 15 years. Officials cite the Constitution's secular framework as a barrier to collecting such data, with only birth registrations and migrant apprehensions typically recording religion.
