Ex-CJI Chandrachud Responds to Justice Kaul's Memoir on Collegium

Former Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud has stated that collegium decisions were unanimous and that former Supreme Court judge Sanjay Kishan Kaul endorsed every recommendation. Justice Chandrachud noted that official records show collegium resolutions and reasons for recommendations were made public on the Supreme Court's website. He added that Justice Kaul never recorded a dissent when candidates were formally proposed to the government for judicial appointments. Chandrachud also clarified that collegium decisions were not made abruptly but followed multiple informal and formal discussions.

भारत के पूर्व प्रधान न्यायाधीश धनंजय वाई चंद्रचूड़ ने कहा है कि कॉलेजियम के फैसले सर्वसम्मति से लिए गए थे और पूर्व सुप्रीम कोर्ट न्यायाधीश संजय किशन कौल ने हर सिफारिश का समर्थन किया था। जस्टिस चंद्रचूड़ ने बताया कि आधिकारिक रिकॉर्ड बताते हैं कि कॉलेजियम के प्रस्ताव और सिफारिशों के कारण सुप्रीम कोर्ट की वेबसाइट पर सार्वजनिक किए गए थे। उन्होंने कहा कि जब उम्मीदवारों को न्यायिक नियुक्तियों के लिए सरकार के पास औपचारिक रूप से प्रस्तावित किया गया था, तब जस्टिस कौल ने कभी भी असहमति दर्ज नहीं की थी। चंद्रचूड़ ने यह भी स्पष्ट किया कि कॉलेजियम के फैसले अचानक नहीं लिए गए थे, बल्कि कई अनौपचारिक और औपचारिक चर्चाओं के बाद लिए गए थे।
