Shardiya Navratri Panchami, observed on Thursday, October 15, is dedicated to Maa Skandamata, the "Mother of Skanda." Traditionally, flax flowers are offered, but yellow flowers like marigolds are an alternative if flax is unavailable. Bananas are also a customary food offering to please the Goddess. Worshipping Skandamata, who is depicted holding her child Skanda, is believed to invoke blessings from both mother and son.
