A Scottish prawn trawler, Sustain, ran aground on rocks near Loch Broom on November 16, 2023, after its skipper fell asleep at the helm. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch report revealed that no watch alarm was fitted on board the vessel. The skipper had been on watch during the afternoon and felt tired while returning to Ullapool. Despite opening the wheelhouse windows and having coffee, he eventually fell asleep. The crew were unharmed, but the trawler was declared a constructive total loss and later dismantled.
