Karnataka Drought Affects 177 Taluks, Worst in 150

Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara announced that 53 more taluks will be added to the drought-affected list, bringing the total to 177 out of 240. This continuous process follows the Drought Manual of 2020. The state has recorded a 36% rainfall deficit, significantly impacting agriculture. Crop losses are severe, with 82% lost in rain-fed areas, causing distress to farmers. This drought is considered the worst in 150 years, comparable to 1876 conditions.
