FSSAI Proposes Ban on Added Sugars in Baby Food, Sets Pesticide Caps for Tea

Times of India · health

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has proposed new food safety regulations. These include prohibiting the addition of sucrose and fructose to infant foods intended for babies up to six months old, aiming to curb childhood obesity. Additionally, FSSAI has proposed maximum residue limits for two pesticides, acetamiprid and imidacloprid, in tea. These draft amendments were published in the Gazette of India. Experts suggest these restrictions should be enforced early and consider extending the sugar ban to older children.
