Power Prices Hit Near-Zero on Exchanges Due to Rains and Easing Demand
Mint · business
Power prices on exchanges dropped to near-zero levels in late September due to heavy rains and a decrease in electricity demand. On September 26 and 27, prices on the real-time platform were at or below 10 paise per unit for multiple 15-minute trading blocks. This price softening occurred as cooler weather and the completion of the kharif sowing season reduced demand. The average real-time market price fell 13.3% in September compared to last year, raising concerns for power producers whose costs often exceed these low market rates.
